Chia seeds………..an ancient superfood!

Packing a punch, these little beauties are a must have in every kitchen!  Did you know, only 2 tablespoons (28g) of these little beauties contain;

  • Fiber: 11 grams.
  • Protein: 4 grams.
  • Fat: 9 grams (5 of which are omega-3s).
  • Calcium: 18% of the RDI.
  • Manganese: 30% of the RDI.
  • Magnesium: 30% of the RDI.
  • Phosphorus: 27% of the RDI.
  • They also contain a decent amount of zinc, vitamin B3 (niacin), potassium, vitamin B1 (thiamine) and vitamin B2.

Incorporating this superfood into your diet is a breeze!!  Smoothies, porridge, desserts, on cereals, on salads, or even use as a thickening agent in sauces instead of eggs (mixed with liquid it becomes gel like).  If you don’t currently have this little super-seed in your daily diet, you should start now!!!

 

My favourite (pictured above)….  Little Pots of Awesomeness!!!  Have as breakfast or an evening dessert;

 

Recipe;

  • ½ Cup Chia Seeds
  • ½ Cup Coconut Milk*
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon or Nutmeg
  • Any fruit you like – I have 3 above; Mango, Passionfruit & Blackberry (puree some fruits then add fresh whole fruit at the end)

 

Mix milk, chia seeds and spices and refrigerate overnight.  Puree fresh fruit just when making your pot and top with fresh fruit (if you have a sweet tooth, why not use chocolate sprinkles).

 

*You can substitute the coconut milk for extra almond milk if you prefer.
